The Handcrafted Mughal Era Ornate Wooden Comb (Large). A beautiful, unique collector's item, this handcrafted and ancient personal accessory is a keepsake that will always be cherished. As an extension of the fine and intricate wood carving craft of Uttar Pradesh, the tradition of carving combs has come down through the centuries. Widely used during the Mughal period, the craft tentatively dates back to Mughal Emperor Akbar’s reign, which makes it over easily over 500 years old. Crafted from mostly sheesham and ebony wood, the artisans are able to create the most exquisite combs with carving that is distinctly reflective of Mughal patterns and designs. Designs are made entirely in free hand. Today, the craft has become more of a collector’s item with more decorative value rather than as a personal grooming accessory. Hence in this product segment, artisans have now moved on to creating products like hair clasps, pins and the likes.
